Wall Candy

Posted by Suzi | May 29, 2012

Normally, I’m a bit of prude when it comes to wall stickers. Sure, they can look lovely in magazine pages, but to live with? I tend to think they should be kept to children’s bedrooms.

But stumbling upon the work of NYC artist Paul Villinski made me think again.

Drawn to humble, yet evocative materials; old bowling gloves or, in this case, crushed beer cans from the streets of New York – every one of them once raised to someone’s lips- he takes the art to a whole new and inspiring level.

In his own words: “My process of “recycling” them into images of butterflies is a quiet physical meditation, a yoga of tin snips and files and fingers. Often, they want to gather into a certain shape, or fly off on a particular tangent, and I let them.”

He’s got me hooked. I so want to use these.
