Tangerine Tango

Posted by Suzi | April 3, 2012

For a while I’ve been grappling with Tangerine Tango- which may sound like some crazy sugar high of a drink but, actually, is Pantone’s chosen colour of 2012. Strong, bold, often mistakenly reported as orange; it pulls no punches and would be the last thing you’d decorate a chilld’s bedroom in (unless, of course, you like raring 2 year olds at 3am).

*Quick aside; I have actually included an image of it used in a kids bathroom below as it’s kind of fun and who cares if those messy pups feel energised in there, right?*

Infused with less yellow than your average tangerine, it sits perfectly between sassy red and playful orange on the colour wheel. Poppy-like in tone, it was the high-fashion S/S 2012 campaigns’ colour of lip.

So how does one use in an interior scheme?  Sparingly, that’s how. A whole room of the stuff would be a 3D headache. But used as an accent colour- refined to a couple of arm chairs or cushions- it’s nothing short of fabulous. For a tasteful modern look pair it with dark grey. Or, for something 5th Avenue- classical but funky- pop a couple of accessories into a cream decor scheme. In terms of other colour friends, it’s quite fussy- liking only a dash of blueish purple, a sprig of dark green or a tiny smidgen of yellow.

However, a full-on clash with hot pink and orange can also be a lot of fun…

  1. Love! But don’t think I’d be brave enough in my own home- will prob stick to having just the lip colour :)
