Day Dreaming in Primrose Hill

Posted by Suzi | June 27, 2012

I had just 24 little hours in the UK last week- before flying off to Sarajevo for a beautiful wedding (more of which to come)- and headed straight to my first London love: Primrose Hill.

It was one of those rare, sunny, summer London days, in which the sun was not too hot or too cold. The sky was blue and the flowers seemed to shine.

Village-like in feel, it is, I imagine, the London ideal that starry-eyed tourists arrive expecting to find but rarely do in the chaos of Leister Square or Covent Garden. While there are no hotels, short-let apartments are available here. Or you can just potter away the days there in the pretty vintage shops and lethal little bakeries.

Actually, I’d strongly advise going on an empty stomach. Solid queues of cupcake aficionados form on weekends outside The Primrose Hill Bakery (Kate Moss’s fav). While over in Lanka (see images below) Japanese/French chef, and former star of the three-star Michelin restaurant The Gavroch, Masayuki Hara cooks up new sweet-treat creations daily.

Once you’re sugared-up, hit the shops! There’s always a bargain to be stumbled upon in Mary Portas’s Living and Giving shop (red interior, pictured below) full of secondhand designer clothes and brand donations. While Graham and Green is literally bursting with pretty decor- I have my eyes of the paper pom poms, pictured- or in Judith Michael and Daughter‘s, you’ll want to scrap everything in your home for their cute vintage style.

Foodies, take a detour down Gloucester Avenue.  Melrose and Morgan is the ultimate destination for organic goodies. Or over at La Petite Poissonnerie you’ll find locally caught fish and cooking lessons to boot.

End the day with a pint (of wine, naturally) and a wood-fired pizza at The Lansdowne Pub. Heaven!
