Are these the world’s best beach parties?

Posted by Suzi | April 30, 2012

When I started this blog, I really wanted it to be about travel as well as style and interiors but the latter seems to have dominated. So, with a Club Tropicana-style getaway in mind, here a guide to 2012′s best beach parties by Kirsty Hathaway (Editor of Beach Tomato website, and Founder of lethal bikini shop Beach Tomato Shack).

Best enjoyed with sand between your toes and a caipirinha in hand.

1.The Garden Festival, Croatia

DATE: 4th-11th July

Hosted in a secluded bay complete with its own beach, expect boat parties, tiki bars and private chill out gardens. Plus music from Tiger and Woods, Kenny Dope Gonzalez and Nicolas Jaar.

VIBE: Secret underground sounds.

BEACH: With an enviable location- the festival has its own bay- pebbles fade into sand as crystal clear waters lap and dance beats emit from the beachside stage.

PACKING TIP: Pack versatile items. Like this Athena Procopiou scarf (see here), which can be worn in over 5 different ways; as a scarf, obviously, then a dress, a top, a turban and a headband.

2. Hangout Music Fest, Alabama

DATE: 18th-20th May

Directly on the white sands of the Gulf Shore, headliners include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band and Jack White.

VIBE: Sun, sea and rock-and-roll.

BEACH: Gulf shores, surrounded by waving palms, met with aquamarine waters. The sugary shore is transformed into one giant party venue as Hangout sets-up its temporary home.

PACKING TIP: The tents are not the most spacious so opt for easy-to-pack items. Lightweight materials, like this CC Kuo green shirt dress (see here) won’t take-up and inch of space and can be thrown over a high-waisted bikini for a boho look.

3. Essaouira Gnaoua Festival, Morocco

DATE: 23RD-26TH June

Celebrate the mysterious music of the Gnaoua in the picturesque blue port of Essaouira.

VIBE: African rhythm

BEACH: Essaouira Beach where blustery winds make kite surfers happy; ride the sapphire waves or take a stroll across the bronze sands.

PACKING TIP: Only take two pairs of shoes. A bold move, I know, but you generally don’t need more and they are bulky to carry. Heels and sand are a no-go so opt for a versitile sandal (like these Ags) which tend to go perfectly with everything.
